Abstract

The rapid growth of the textile and apparel sector, together with the continuous accumulation of temple flower waste, has increased the need for sustainable waste management strategies. Recycled cotton textile waste and temple flower waste represent valuable renewable resources that can be utilized to develop environmentally friendly functional textiles. Recycled cotton waste offers opportunities for the production of sustainable textile materials, while temple flower waste contains naturally occurring aromatic compounds and bioactive constituents that can be explored for textile finishing applications. This review explores the sources, properties, processing techniques, and potential applications of recycled cotton textile waste and temple flower waste in textile development. Various fragrance extraction methods, eco-friendly finishing approaches, and characterization techniques used to evaluate the physical, chemical, mechanical, and functional properties of developed textiles are discussed. The review also identifies existing challenges, including fragrance durability, process optimization, scalability, and limited integration of these waste materials into multifunctional textile systems. The findings indicate that the combined utilization of recycled cotton textile waste and temple flower waste offers a sustainable pathway for developing value-added functional textiles while supporting circular economy principles, reducing environmental impacts, and promoting innovative solutions for future textile applications.
