Governance and Conflict Management Strategies against Banditry in Katsina State: The Dikko Umar Radda Administration

Abstract

This study examines governance and conflict management strategies employed in combating armed banditry in Katsina State, Nigeria, under the administration of Governor Dikko Umar Radda. Using a qualitative research design based on content analysis of secondary data, the study evaluates institutional reforms, security coordination mechanisms, and community-based initiatives. The findings reveal that while the administration has achieved measurable reductions in banditry through enhanced inter-agency collaboration and grassroots security engagement, persistent structural challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and weak institutional capacity—continue to undermine sustainable peace. The study argues that effective governance, when combined with inclusive conflict management frameworks, is essential for long-term security. It concludes by recommending integrated socio-economic policies, institutional strengthening, and community-driven peace building mechanisms.
