Abstract
This paper focused on promoting national development and security through effective teaching and learning of biology in Nigeria. It looks at the concept of national development, security, teaching, learning biology, the role of effective teaching and learning of biology in promoting national development and security in Nigeria. The paper also highlighted the factors affecting effective teaching of biology in promoting national development and security in Nigeria. Finally, recommendations were made among which was the need for the training of the prospective biology teachers to be comprehensive and government providing the school with adequate biological equipments since it is very clear that effective biology teaching is expected to achieve an appreciable national development and security.
