Improving Teaching Effectiveness through Teachers’ Use of ICT Devices in Public Secondary Schools in Uyo Education Zone, Akwa Ibom State

Abstract

This study investigated improving teaching effectiveness through teachers’ use of ict devices in public secondary schools in Uyo education zone, Akwa Ibom State. The descriptive survey was adopted as the research design for the study. The target population of the study comprised 3,178 teachers in the 86 public secondary schools in Uyo education zone. A sample of 318 secondary school teachers were selected using multistage sampling. Two researcher-constructed instruments: Teachers’ use of ICT Devices Questionnaire (TUIDQ) and Teaching Effectiveness Questionnaire (TEQ) were used for data collection. Cronbach’s Alpha reliability method was used to establish the internal consistency reliability of the instruments. Data obtained from the field were analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation to answer research questions, while hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance using One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Result showed significant difference in teaching effectiveness of public secondary school teachers in Uyo education zone based on their use of ICT devices for instructional purpose. The study therefore concluded that the use of ICT devices enhances the teaching effectiveness of public secondary school teachers in Uyo education zone. It is therefore recommended, among others, that government and other relevant authorities should provide adequate computers to secondary school teachers and that training and retraining on computer usage should be organized on regular basis for all teachers.
